LINEE DI RICERCA

Il gruppo di ricerca da me coordinato è uno dei principali gruppi a livello mondiale che si occupa di produzioni avicunicole estensive e biologiche (47 lavori su riviste internazionali, più alcune review e articoli divulgativi, 820 citazioni bibliografiche; LINK).

L’interesse prevalente delle ricerche è di valutare l’effetto del sistema estensivo sulla qualità dei prodotti (carne e uova), sul benessere animale, sull’impatto ambientale e sulle performance. A tale proposito, è stato messo a punto un modello multicriteri per valutare l’effetto del sistema di allevamento sulle variabili indicate presedentemente.

Le sperimentazioni hanno evidenziato:

  • la necessità di utilizzare razze/linee genetiche adattate all’ambiente estensivo in termini di razzolamento, risposta immunitaria, benessere;
  • l’importanza di avere una superficie di pascolo adeguata (10 m2/capo) che migliora il benessere degli animali e arricchisce nutrizionalmente i prodotti (acidi grassi n-3, antiossidanti, ferro, stabilità ossidativa).

Allo stesso tempo le sperimentazioni hanno messo in luce i punti critici strutturali che ostacolano lo sviluppo di un’avi-cunicoltura estensiva (macelli consortili, know-how, disponibilità di pulcini di linee/razze adattate, etc).

Nel 2014, per valorizzare i risultati scientifici e superare tali punti critici, è stato promosso uno spin-off accademico (FARE – filiera avicola rurale estensiva).
